I really enjoy yogurt. As it turns out, it’s good for you. It goes well before and after exercise for a bunch of reasons. That makes it a super fitness food.

Some people can’t tolerate dairy. That’s understandable and there are plenty of alternative choices for you.

The Benefits Of Yogurt Are As Simple As Yogurt

If you can eat yogurt, you should think about adding it to your diet if you don’t already.

There are so many great ways to have it. If you are a purist, try it plain. Plain yogurt is really the best kind. Your yogurt should only contain milk or cream and live bacterial cultures.

A variety of fat content is available to coincide with whatever diet you may be on. That makes yogurt a decent choice for most people.

If you can’t stand plain yogurt, I am totally with you, then you have options. There are plenty of options to make that plain yogurt tasty.

This Fitness Food Mixes Great With Other Stuff Too

My snack today

I like to toss a bowl of yogurt together with fresh fruit. Usually I’ll include blueberries, strawberries or bananas. Sometimes if I can’t find fresh fruit I’ll mix in some applesauce. It’s all good.

After that I’ll crush in some walnuts. If I can’t find walnuts, I’ll reach for a small amount of granola.

Then I’ll add just a little bit of honey. This is great if you have a bit of a sweet tooth. You don’t need much. You’re probably going to be good for sweetness with the fruit. But I know, sometimes you can’t say no that honey.

Finally, I top it all off with some cinnamon. That is some good stuff and it is delicious. If you don’t like cinnamon, that’s your loss.

Look, the great thing about yogurt is that you can dress it up any way you like. If you don’t want to bother with it in a bowl, throw it together with some ingredients in a blender and make a smoothie.

It’s one of the easiest things you’ll ever have to prepare.

How To Include Yogurt In Your Diet And Workout

Not only is yogurt great but you can have it before and after a workout. That makes it one of those special fitness foods. It’s loaded with carbohydrates and protein. That’s great news if you’re planning to go outside and enjoy a long walk or getting ready for a new warm up routine. It’s fuel you can enjoy.

The Mayo Clinic goes so far as to recommend eating plain yogurt with fresh or frozen fruit as a post-workout snack. In addition to proteins and carbs you get valuable fats, calcium and a bunch of vitamins and minerals.

If you’re going to eat it before a workout, they suggest giving yourself approximately an hour to digest.

Likewise, if you’re going for that yogurt and fresh fruit combo after a workout, make sure you have it within two hours of finishing to get the full benefit of this great snack. You want to feed your body after all those knee tuck jumps.

So there you have it. So many ways to enjoy yogurt. Have it as a snack. Have it as part of a meal. Enjoy this special fitness food before or after a workout. The opportunities are only limited by your imagination.

But What If I Can’t Eat Yogurt?

Oh, in case you were wondering about those other choices I mentioned earlier if you can’t tolerate yogurt there are a few. According to the Mayo Clinic, good substitutes include a peanut butter sandwich, low fat chocolate milk, fresh fruit on its own like apples or bananas and a turkey sandwich on whole grain bread with vegetables.

Don’t eat that stuff all together. I imagine there’s something there for everybody. Hopefully you’ll be able to enjoy yogurt and those other things. Otherwise, eat what you want. I’m not your parents.
